BARROW Raiders suffered two major blows in the start of their Championship defence at Leigh Centurions.
The hosts came back and stole a 20-20 draw with a Mick Nanyn penalty as the hooter sounded and, more seriously, winger James Nixon faces a lengthy lay-off after suffering a suspected double break to his arm.
The 24-year-old flier managed only five minutes on the field before he walked off in obvious agony after his only run of the game.
He was immediately taken to a local hospital, with Barrow coach Steve McCormack expressing his concern for one of his star players.
“The injury was horrific,” said the Raiders boss, who visited Nixon in hospital after the game.
“It’s sod’s law that in the second half we had three or four chances that if Nicko had been on the end of them, we would have scored them.
