Barrow Raiders are disappointed with the decision reached by the RFL over the cancellation of the League One season. Even with waiting for crowds to return in October we felt that the season could have been extended to have a campaign with integrity and with it promotion and relegation. We want to thank all of our season ticket holders and sponsors that have remained so loyal throughout the pandemic.
The RFL decision has now given us some serious issues to ponder and we ask that you remain patient a little longer as we consider entering the new cup competition that will at least give our followers some rugby to watch. There is a meeting with the RFL on Friday to discuss the format of the competition, but the guidance on returning to play is comprehensive and is a further large, costly obstacle to return. Despite all our efforts off the pitch this is a tough time for the club and the financial pressures are real. We are one of only a handful of clubs that didn’t take advantage of the Government loan from the RFL as we didn’t want to take the option of increasing club debt, but this has added to the pressure made by the RFL decision.
At this point we would also like to thank the members of the 1875 club and their fantastic donations to the club. The fund was there to strengthen the squad and this money is still ring-fenced for this purpose. There will be a 1875 club update soon.
Over the next few weeks we will be totally transparent with our decision making process and let you know first hand what comes out of the RFL meetings. Thanks again for your continued support.
