COMMUNITY SPORTS COACH / HEALTH & WELLBEING CHAMPION
As an Advantage Coach, you’ll support people participating in our programme of sports and health & wellbeing activities. You will work with a variety of people who access our expansive programmes, ranging from children within our school delivery, to offering chair based exercise programmes to our older population. You will also have a role in encouraging underrepresented groups and young people to participate in sporting and wellbeing activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Within performance management, you’ll need to:
- adapt to the needs and interests of group or individual participants
- have an interest and enthusiasm for many sports
- communicate instructions and commands using clear, simple language
- demonstrate an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence
- encourage participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge and techniques
- inspire confidence and self-belief
- work with IT-based resources to monitor and measure performance and delivery
- act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the people you work with
- liaise with other partner organisations
- always work to a high legal and ethical standard, particularly in relation to issues such as child safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
- have a sensitive and supportive approach
Within planning and administration, you’ll need to:
- maintain records of participant attendance and performance
- plan and run programmes of activities for schools and groups
- market and promote our programmes on all social media platforms
- set up, take down and transport equipment at and between venues
- display good organisational skills
The successful candidate will need to hold a valid driving licence with access to effective means of transport.
No adverse criminal record as an enhanced DBS will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Although no formal qualification is required to become one of our coaches, you should have a sports or health & wellbeing background with a knowledge of sports coaching or practical work experience, which you may have gained via voluntary, part-time or paid employment as a coach, fitness instructor, recreation assistant or leisure or fitness centre attendant.
The Team – Small, friendly team motivated to give guidance and support to any new member with initiatives.
The Role – starting salary of £18,720 per annum, 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work during the Barrow Raiders rugby season and additional hours as required.
Training – CPD with opportunities to gain qualifications in a variety of sports coaching and youth work.
