Barrow Raiders have signed Castleford Tigers hooker Aiden Doolan on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old spent time at the Raiders towards the end of last season, making 10 appearances for the club.
Having come through the Warrington Wolves academy system then representing nearby Widnes Vikings at scholarship level, Doolan made the move to Australia at the end of 2023 to link up with South Sydney Rabbitohs – on the recommendation of former Warrington forward Tyrone McCarthy, who headed up the Rabbitohs’ pathways – on a ‘trial and train’ contract.
He spent a year Down Under before returning to the UK, playing for Widnes Vikings on trial during the early part of the 2025 season.
He subsequently left the club to join Betfred Super League side Huddersfield Giants on trial soon after. However, a hand injury cut short his time at the Giants before he was able to make an appearance.
Having made a real impression during his short time in Barrow towards the end of last year, we are delighted to welcome him back into our squad for 2026.
“I’m buzzing to get the opportunity to come back to Barrow on loan, following on from my spell here last season,” Doolan said.
“I’m really excited to get playing with the lads again and get some valuable minutes under my belt to help me develop as a player.
“From a personal perspective, I’m looking forward to the start of the season. Hopefully we can push to win as many games as we can.”
Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “After spending a large part of last season with the club, it’s great news that Castleford trust us with helping Aiden develop into the player they know he can be.
“Aiden was very popular with the fans, and we look forward to seeing him back in a Barrow shirt again next season.”
Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Aiden really impressed during his time on loan with the club last season, and so to welcome him back for 2026 is a real boost.
“He is a player with a really bright future, and for Castleford to trust us with the next 12 months of his development is something we are really grateful for.
“I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone at the club in wishing Aiden a warm welcome back.”
