Over the last six years, our hugely-successful Junior Education Training Scheme (JETS) programme has provided opportunities for amateur coaches and the next generation of rugby league players across Cumbria.
As a club, we hope to see a clear pathway from the JETS programme to Furness Raiders and then to professional rugby league.
It is a path that has been followed in recent years by Ryan Johnston, Jake Carter, Adam Ford, Connor Terrill and Charlie Emslie in recent years, all of whom have successfully sampled first team professional rugby league.
We are grateful for the support of a number of programme sponsors, who help allow the club to develop the JETS programme for future generations to enjoy.
One of those sponsors is Unite the Union; a democratic and campaigning union, which fights back for employees in the workplace, protects workers’ rights and takes trade unionism out to millions of unorganised workers.
It boasts over 1.4 million members in the UK across construction, manufacturing, transport, logistics, and other sectors. Unite the Union also includes members from varying sectors throughout Barrow and the wider Furness area.
On the decision to support the Raiders, Unite the Union 0401 Branch Chairman Mike Jones said: “We have been proud to support local sport, talent and the community through the great work provided by the Advantage team.
“It has been fantastic to have backed the Able Raiders team, ladies team, men’s team and the Advantage! multi-sports camps.
“After the previous success of the JETS programme and the benefit it provides to local sport and individuals, we recognise the extreme value and impact any contribution by local companies or associations has and we were enthused to support.
“Many of Unite’s members follow the club, attend the ground for the variety of events and benefit from the great work that the team have delivered locally. This has made the support we have been able to offer even more valuable.”
