Barrow Raiders put in a performance to be proud of as they fell to a 20-10 defeat against runaway league leaders Featherstone Rovers in Round 19 of the Betfred Championship.

Having repelled an early barrage from the visitors, Featherstone did eventually take the lead seven minutes in when Gareth Gale dived over out wide.

A Ryan Shaw penalty goal soon halved the deficit, but Craig Hall touched down before the midway point of the first half and Mark Kheirallah added the extras to make it 10-2.

In trademark Raiders fashion, a free-flowing move with ball in-hand resulted in Ryan Shaw diving over in the corner.

Ellis Archer then fed Andrew Bulman, who soon added his name to the scoresheet to make it 10-10 at the break.

Luke Briscoe scored early in the second half for Featherstone, and they made it 20-10 not longer after as Arama Hau charged his way over the line.

The final quarter saw the Raiders stay in the contest and stand toe-to-toe with promotion favourites Rovers, and although there were no more points scored for either side, Paul Crarey’s squad can take real confidence from Sunday as their battle to avoid the drop continues into the final eight rounds.

The Raiders now have a weekend off due to the return of cup action. Their next outing will be away at Bradford Bulls on Monday 31 July, live on Viaplay Sports.

Tickets for that fixture can be bought .
