Barrow Raiders endured a bad day at the office in Round 5 of the Betfred Championship, falling to a 38-6 home defeat to Doncaster at the Northern Competitions Stadium.

An out-of-sorts Raiders display meant they were put to the sword by the newly-promoted visitors, who took just three minutes to open the scoring as Brad Hey touched down.

Former Hull FC man Joe Lovodua bulldozed his way over before the half-hour mark to make it 10-0, but the Raiders were able to reduce the deficit before half-time as Ellis Gillam scored his first try since returning from injury after a smart short ball from Tom Forber sent him crashing over.

The second half swung heavily in the visitors’ favour as sheer weight of possession saw them hammer home their advantage.

Ben Johnston and Craig Hall scored in quick succession to make it 22-6 with 60 minutes on the clock, then Pauli Pauli, Reece Lyne and Luke Briscoe added further insult to injury in the final 10 minutes.

Ryan Johnston was shown a late yellow card for the Raiders, but it mattered litle with the result already beyond doubt.

Paul Crarey’s side will look to regroup ahead of Round 6, with a trip to Sheffield Eagles on the cards next Sunday (3pm kick-off). Tickets for that fixture can be purchased here.
