Barrow Raiders rounded off preparations for the new season with a hard-fought 16-6 victory over Hunslet at a wet and windy Craven Park.
In torrid conditions, the two sides shared a try apiece in the first half to go into the break at 6-6, before scores from Greg Burke and Matt Costello helped the Raiders bag 10 unanswered points to wrap up the win.
Sunday’s game saw Ramon Silva make his Raiders debut following his arrival during the off-season, while Greg Burke also enjoyed his first minutes of pre-season.
A scoreless opening quarter in difficult conditions came to an end shortly before the half-hour mark when Greenwood latched onto the end of Ryan Johnston’s teasing kick towards the line.
Ryan Shaw’s conversion made it 6-0, but a converted Jude Ferreira score meant the Betfred League 1 side would draw level before the interval.
With the wind in their favour during the second half, it took just eight minutes for more Raiders points to be scored as Burke bulldozed his way over from close range.
The victory was wrapped up six minutes from time when a move out wide, as a result of the visitors being short on numbers, led to Costello touching down to make it 16-6.
The Raiders return to competitive action at 3pm on Sunday when they visit neighbours Workington Town in the group stages of the 1895 Cup.
