It was a tough day at the office for Barrow Raiders on Sunday as they were heavily beaten 54-0 by in-form Sheffield Eagles at Olympic Legacy Park.
The Round 6 fixture was Paul Crarey’s 300th in charge of the Raiders, but they were unable to match a clinical Eagles outfit in his milestone match as the hosts made it six Betfred Championship wins from six in South Yorkshire.
After an even opening quarter, the Eagles picked up momentum as Eddie Battye and Jack Hansen crossed in quick succession, with Cory Aston converting on both occasions.
Joel Farrell powered his way over not long after, then James Glover added his name to the scoresheet on the half-hour mark.
The second half saw Sheffield continue to pile on pressure and points, Ben Jones-Bishop racing the length of the field for an intercept score shortly after half-time.
Kyle Wood soon got in on the act, before Bailey Liu touched down and Glover finished off a long-range team try to make it 46-0.
The Raiders stemmed the tide of points until the final few moments, when Tyler Dickinson crashed over three minutes from time.
There was still time for the Eagles to add two more points after the final hooter, having been awarded a penalty for a high tackle with the final play of the match.
The Raiders return home to the Northern Competitions Stadium on Sunday to face Batley Bulldogs, who have picked up two wins from their opening six league matches.
