Barrow Raiders fell to a disappointing 36-12 defeat at home to York Knights in Round 5 of the Betfred Championship.

It proved to be a difficult afternoon for the Raiders, who were vying for a third successive league win after recent triumphs against Oldham and Bradford Bulls.

Instead, it was the visitors who upset the form guide to earn their second victory of the campaign.

Despite enduring a scrappy opening 40 minutes, the Raiders only trailed by six points at half-time, Ryan Johnston’s try sandwiched between a first-half double from York playmaker Liam Harris.

Harris completed his hat-trick six minutes after the restart, and although Ellis Robson crashed over to reduce the arrears, two tries in a six-minute spell saw the visitors take the game out of the Raiders’ reach.

The influential Harris added a further penalty goal to take the Knights’ lead beyond three converted tries, before Jude Ferreira’s diving finish in the corner completed an excellent afternoon for York three minutes from time.

Paul Crarey’s side must regroup quickly, with a trip to Oldham in the 1895 Cup quarter-finals on the way next Sunday.
