We would like to take a moment to recognise the incredible organisations supporting this year’s Junior Education Training Scheme (JETS) programme. 

JETS is an initiative which sees head coach Paul Crarey and his team provide an invite to amateur coaches in the area to gain insight and benefit from their professional coaching expertise. This year, JETS celebrates its 10th anniversary!

Tell us a little bit about the Raiders Super Lotto, and the work you do?

Super Lotto was started in 2014 by John Spoor of the Auxiliary Association to provide funding for Paul Crarey’s vision of providing a vital youth development side to Barrow Raiders, which began with the JETS programme.  

The older age group in JETS, for 16-18-year-olds, was targeted to become a pathway into a new venture called Furness Raiders. Keith Nutter worked alongside Paul to develop Furness Raiders and forge a partnership with Furness College, which enabled them to get accepted into the College League. 

Furness Raiders’ inaugural season was 2016 and they have won the league once, whilst being semi-finalists twice, and have also gained the title of Furness Raiders Development Academy from the RFL.

 What does it mean to you to support Barrow Raiders through opportunities such as this?

JETS is a valuable asset as it provides training sessions for both players and coaches.  

Players are able to return year after year and aim for a place in Furness Raiders Development Academy. This helps keep local talent on our doorstep with the opportunity for some of them to be signed by Barrow Raiders, as with current players Ryan Johnston, Charlie Emslie, Finn McMillan and Seth Woodend.
