Barrow Raiders fell to a 26-12 defeat at Betfred Championship leaders York Knights in Round 18.
It proved to be a difficult afternoon at the LNER Community Stadium for the Raiders as they succumbed to a second successive league defeat on the road.
Joe Law broke the deadlock inside the opening 10 minutes before Scott Galeano extended the hosts’ advantage shortly after the midway point of the half.
Sam Cook crashed under the posts, with Liam Harris’ boot extending the York lead to 14-0 at half-time.
They built up an unassailable 20-point advantage thanks to Cook’s second of the afternoon, as they moved a step closer to their 12th successive win in all competitions.
The Raiders rallied, however, and Luke Cresswell scored their first points of the afternoon.
Shortly after, Tom Walker crashed over after a neat offload, and Ryan Shaw’s conversion made it 20-12 with 13 minutes to play.
Ultimately, it was York who struck the decisive blow five minutes from time. With a huge gap in the Raiders’ defence, Connor Bailey took advantage to touch down under the sticks.
A six-day turnaround awaits the Raiders as Toulouse Olympique visit the Northern Competitions Stadium next Saturday. Tickets are available to buy here.
