Barrow Raiders forward Ryan King has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2027 season.

Arriving at the Northern Competitions Stadium from local rivals Whitehaven ahead of the current campaign, King has gone on to feature 13 times for the club in all competitions, scoring four tries.

He recently made his return from an injury lay-off and has hit the ground running, demonstrating exactly why he will be a crucial part of the Raiders’ plans moving forward.

An Italy international, King has already amassed a wealth of Betfred Championship experience and is quickly approaching 100 career appearances.

We’d like to say a big thank you to the Blue & White Knights for funding this new deal for King.

Over recent years, the Knights have provided invaluable financial contributions and ensure we are able to have the highest playing budget possible heading into the 2026 season.

“I’m really happy to have secured another two years with Barrow Raiders,” he said.

“I started the season off strongly and was playing some good footy, but unfortunately a knee injury and subsequent surgery midway through the season set me back.

“I’m back now and determined to keep myself fit and injury-free for our remaining games and next season.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and would like to say thank you to Steve Neale, Cresta [Paul Crarey], Andy Gaffney and everyone at the club for the treatment I’ve received while being injured.

“I owe those guys another two seasons and want to perform to the best of my ability.

“We have a high quality, strong team and a brilliant fan base which makes it so much more enjoyable at training and on a matchday.”

Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “It’s great news for the club that Ryan King has agreed a new deal.

“He started the season in great form but unfortunately picked up some injuries along the way.

“He has been a tremendous asset this season, but as coaching staff, we’re confident that Ryan will be an even better player for us next season with a full pre-season behind him.”

Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Injuries have disrupted Ryan King’s first season in a Raiders shirt, but there’s no disputing the quality he brings.

“I believe every Championship club would benefit from having someone like Kingy in their squad. He is a real professional, on and off the pitch, and adds to our options in both attack and defence.

“Everyone at the club is confident that Kingy can really kick on next season and help the club get to where it wants to be.”
