Barrow Raiders can confirm that young forward Finn McMillan has completed a move to Wigan Warriors.
McMillan has signed a two-year deal with the Warriors, who hold the option of a third year.
He has spent more than a decade with the Raiders and first linked up with the club’s development academy, Furness Raiders, at the age of 16.
His love for the game began at the age of six when he first represented Roose Pioneers, where he was coached by his father and current Furness Raiders head coach Paul.
McMillan made his Raiders first team debut against Oldham in the Betfred Challenge Cup in February 2024.
The 20-year-old went on to sign his first professional contract with the club in April of that year, securing his immediate future amidst interest from Betfred Super League clubs.
He made four appearances during his debut campaign with the Raiders and featured a further nine times in 2025, scoring his first-ever try in professional rugby league against Featherstone Rovers back in July.
Although we are naturally disappointed as a club to lose a player of Finn’s undoubted potential, we will not stand in his way of representing a club of Wigan’s size and stature.
Everyone at Barrow Raiders wishes Finn well for the next chapter in his career.
On the move, McMillan said: “It’s a dream come true to be signing for Wigan. I’ve supported them since I was a kid and to have the opportunity to play for them is unreal.
“I want to thank my family for helping me out along the way, especially my dad who coached me growing up.
“I’d also like to thank Barrow for developing me, and understanding it’s a big opportunity for me and allowing me to pursue it.”
Barrow Raiders chairman Steve Neale said: “We wish Finn well with this great opportunity.
“It works out well for all concerned: Finn gets to train in a full-time environment whilst still being available for Barrow, should he not break into the first team. We also get the benefit of having loan signings available from Wigan throughout the season.
“The message it says to our youngsters is that joining Barrow is still a route to Super League.”
Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Opportunities like this don’t come round often, and I’d like to personally thank Finn for his attitude over recent weeks.
“He is destined for great things in the game. We hope to see him continue to grow as a player in a full-time environment.”
