Barrow Raiders recorded a second Betfred Championship win in the space of four days, digging deep to overcome Hunslet 36-22 at a sun-drenched Speed Competitions Stadium.

A perfect start was made inside five minutes as Ryan King raced over from over 30m out, off the back of a superb break downfield from Alex Bishop out of dummy-half.

Bishop then went from provider to scorer a few minutes later. Matt Costello’s well-weighted grubber down the right bounced up for Luke Broadbent, who had the presence of mind to pass inside and send Bishop over to make it 12-0.

The points kept coming, and a few minutes later Joe Bullock ran an excellent line close to the whitewash and powered past multiple defenders to score.

Hunslet’s response came before the 20-minute mark as Charlie Graham ran a good line of his own and went over down the left edge.

But the Raiders had the final word of the first half as Tee Ritson received a pass wide from Brad Walker, then cut inside past two defenders and went under the posts to score.

The second half saw the visitors enjoy a 12-minute purple patch, scoring three tries without reply to bring themselves back to within two points.

But a close-range barge-over from King for his second of the afternoon saw the Raiders move eight points clear heading into the final quarter.

And with two minutes to go, the icing on the cake was added when Luke Cresswell received an offload from Costello, skipped round the full-back and touched down under the posts to make sure of the win, bringing up 300 career points in the process.

Paul Crarey’s side are next in action on Sunday 7 June, away to local rivals Workington.
