Matt Costello has signed a new one-year deal, keeping him at Barrow Raiders until the end of the 2027 season.
Costello joined the Raiders on a permanent basis ahead of the 2024 campaign, having spent the three seasons prior with Salford Red Devils in the Super League.
The former St Helens academy graduate – who enjoyed a brief loan spell at the Raiders in 2022 – has featured more than 50 times in Barrow colours since, scoring 14 tries during that time.
Operating primarily as a back-rower last season, Costello played a key role in the club’s push for the Championship play-offs.
This new deal will see the 28-year-old remain an integral part of our playing group as we target further success next year.
“We’ve built something really good as a group,” he said.
“To finish inside the top six this year is a big achievement for us all, and hopefully we can build on those foundations again in 2027.
“It’s a great environment with the group of lads that we have, and there’s nowhere else that I want to be playing my rugby right now.”
Barrow Raiders director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Matt has been a reliable presence for a number of seasons now, which is why we were so keen to offer him this new deal.
“Whether he plays in the back row or at centre, we know exactly what we’ll get from Matt, week in, week out.
“Matt is in the prime of his career and can mix it with the very best in the division. To push on next season, we need players with plenty of know-how and big-game experience, which he brings in abundance.”
