Barrow Raiders full-back Luke Cresswell believes that pre-season wins over Whitehaven and Workington Town will stand them in good stead heading into the 2025 campaign.

Last Sunday’s 24-12 win over Workington saw the Raiders go two wins from two, ahead of this Saturday’s final friendly run-out against Betfred Super League side Salford Red Devils.

The 29-year-old emphasised the importance of a solid pre-season, with Paul Crarey’s side looking to build their fitness ahead of a return to competitive action.

“Pre-season has gone as well as it could,” Cresswell said.

“We have worked hard as a group and I think it has shown in the opening games. It’s definitely important to get a solid block of fitness in the pre-season, as when we start playing, the games will come thick and fast.

“It’s a really good feeling to get some reward for the hard work we have put in. We’ve been able to keep the same shape even when changes have been made.”

Cresswell is moving into his 10th season with the Raiders, having made his debut during the 2016 campaign.

The Raiders made four new signings in the off-season, welcoming Ellis Robson, Ryan King, Curtis Teare and Alex Bishop to the club, and the experienced full-back has praised the quartet for the way they have settled into new surroundings.

And with one final run-out to come against higher-league opposition this weekend, Cresswell says the new-look squad are in a good place to face the challenge head-on.

“It’s funny referring to the signings as new lads, as it really doesn’t feel like they are,” he added.

“We have gelled well since we started in November, and they have all brought new qualities to the table.

“We’ll need everyone to be ready for Salford this weekend. I’m sure they’ll provide a really intense match that will stand us in good stead going into the new year.”
