Barrow Raiders returned to Betfred Championship action in style, overcoming Doncaster 36-12 at the Eco-Power Stadium.
The Raiders battled hard to overcome a stubborn Dons side that had recovered from 12-0 down to draw level in the first half.
On a rare midweek outing under the lights in South Yorkshire, the game couldn’t have started much better for Paul Crarey’s side, a Doncaster error close to their own line gifting Joe Bullock the chance to score under the posts, on his 150th appearance for the club.
Soon after, the lead became 12 as slick hands right opened up space, and a looping pass from Matt Costello sent Curtis Teare over in the corner.
Connor Jones raced over before the half-hour to reduce the arrears, then Loui McConnell supported Pauli Pauli to go over.
Still, it would be the Raiders who led by six at half-time, Brad Walker dummying his way to the line and holding off two defenders to score.
Before the hour, Ellis Robson took the Raiders 12 points clear for a second time, after supporting Shane Toal’s break into open space.
Then, it was young Fin Dutton-Rosconie who burrowed over from dummy-half to all-but-seal the points 12 minutes from time, with his first competitive try for the club.
Then, with time running out, Alex Bishop burrowed over from close range, just to the left of the posts, to ensure a convincing win.
The turnaround between games is quick now for the Raiders, who welcome Hunslet to the Speed Competitions Stadium on Sunday afternoon (3pm kick-0ff).
