Barrow Raiders’ hugely successful Junior Education Training Scheme (JETS) programme will make its return next month.

For the past decade, the JETS programme has successfully taken place at the Speed Competitions Stadium.

This year, JETS will once again amalgamate with, and form part of the club’s Lions Development Programme – an RFL-mandated programme which is already being delivered by the Advantage! Barrow Raiders Community Foundation.

JETS is an initiative which sees head coach Paul Crarey and his team provide an invite to amateur coaches in the area to gain insight and benefit from their professional coaching expertise.

Coaches from teams across the region – Barrow Island, Millom, Askam, Ulverston, Dalton, Roose Pioneers, Hindpool and Walney – will be invited to the ‘Coach the Coaches’ sessions, offered free of charge to all part-time coaches on Monday 8 June.

In the three weeks immediately following this, we will open the stadium to children from the area (must be secondary school age from September, so current school years 6-10), who are either from their corresponding amateur rugby league teams or from schools and colleges throughout Furness and Cumbria. The children do not need to be affiliated to a community club.

During these sessions, the coaches will implement what they have learnt in week one, with Paul Crarey overseeing the whole evening.

All sessions will take place at the Speed Competitions Stadium from 6-7pm.

A number of well-known Raiders first team players past and present have progressed through this conveyor belt rugby league JETS initiative, including current first team players Luke Broadbent, Ellis Archer and Charlie Emslie, plus captain Ryan Johnston.

Some players found the JETS to be a pathway to Super League teams, while others progressed through the Barrow system.
