An initiative encouraging young female players to take up rugby league is set to launch in Barrow.
Age groups being targeting by the new Girls Rugby League Futures Programme are U13s (covering Year 7 and Year 8 girls) and U15s (covering Year 9 and Year 10 girls).
The programme, which will initially run for 12 weeks, will begin on Tuesday 18 April at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium. This girls launch will involve training and festival-type games, and anyone is welcome to attend.
The following four weeks will see the programme visit a number of local clubs – Barrow Island, Hindpool, Roose Pioneers and Ulverston. During these sessions, Raiders coaches will lead on delivery of a session at a different club each week. These sessions would be open for any girls to join in.
We appreciate that each of the mentioned teams may wish to do their own training on weeks where the programme is at another local club, so any additional support of the programme in encouraging participants to get involved is greatly appreciated.
Two exciting festivals are also set to take place in Weeks 6 and 11 of the programme, both at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.
