Jodie Litherland sets out 2023 ambitions

Jodie Litherland believes a top-two finish is a minimum for Barrow Raiders Ladies this season.

Litherland will once again captain the side as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.

They will look to improve upon the play-off semi-final berth they secured in 2022, and Litherland believes her squad are capable of hitting new heights this year.

“We achieved a lot last season but we have so much more to achieve this year,” she said.

“A top two finish is the minimum we have set ourselves. I want to lead the team to ensure we achieve that, but I want us to win Super League Group 2 and pick up some silverware for the club in doing so.

“League Leaders and a Grand Final would be nice, and I absolutely believe this team is capable of achieving that.”

Amanda Wilkinson’s squad will take to the field for the first time in 2023 on Sunday afternoon, with Wigan Warriors visiting the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium for a pre-season friendly (2:00pm kick-off).

Their league campaign will then begin on Sunday 16 April away at Featherstone Rovers Ladies.

Litherland is hopeful that another strong season for the Raiders Ladies will encourage more young girls across the region to take up the sport.

“I expect the amazing support from the club, including both fans old and new, to continue to grow this year,” she added.

“Off the back of last year and the Rugby League World Cup, we need to make sure we put in good performances and inspire loads more young girls to play rugby league.

“One day, they could be playing in the Women’s Super League at Craven Park too!”
