Barrow Raiders full-back Luke Broadbent believes the club’s challenging pre-season regime has brought the best out of him.
Since returning to training, the club have enjoyed a mixture of gym work, on-field sessions and fitness workouts in the sand dunes.
It is Broadbent’s first pre-season with the club after signing a one-year deal back in October, and the 20-year-old says he is loving every minute of preparations for the new campaign.

“I’m really enjoying it. It’s very tough to be fair,” he said.
“It’s different to what I’m used to, but I feel like it’s bringing more out of me.
“I’m looking forward to next season and what it brings. Cresta [Paul Crarey] and the coaching staff are really bringing me on as a player.”
In joining the Raiders, Broadbent will follow in the footsteps of father Gary, who made 79 appearances for the club over three seasons during his own playing career.
Furthermore, it will not be the first time Broadbent has played under Paul Crarey, having featured for Cumbria against Jamaica in a World Cup warm-up clash last autumn.

With a small amount of Betfred Championship experience also to his name, gained while on loan at Whitehaven and Workington Town last season, Broadbent is excited to complete a Cumbrian hat-trick in 2023.
“It’s a competitive league,” he admitted. “I had the chance to come and play against Barrow, and I remember how good the fans were.
“I’m really excited to get started now.”
