Earlier this month, Nathan Mossop began a 12-month testimonial, as granted by the RFL.
The Barrow Raiders hooker, now in his 13th season at the club, has been commended for his services to the game of rugby league.
We caught up with Mossop to learn more about his testimonial plans, his most memorable moments at the club so far and his ambitions in 2022.
Firstly, how does it feel to be recognised by the RFL for your contribution to Barrow Raiders and rugby league?
“It might sound a little bit daft, but you don’t ever consider it when you’re playing.
“For me, it’s been a pleasure to play at such a great club where the coaching staff, the board members and the fans have supported me throughout my career.
“It’s fantastic to be given a 12-month testimonial, but I’m also looking to give something back to the club.
“I have quite a lot of my events based at the ground so I can share it with the fans. Hopefully we can get as many people onboard as possible.”
You’ve been at the club for 13 years now. Which moments stand out for you?
“Probably the highlight of my career would be moments such as the end of last season.
“Winning League 1 to go up to the Championship was a fantastic achievement.
“It’s those kind of moments that you’ll never forget when you finish your rugby days – special moments with special people.”
With it being your testimonial year, does that give you an added incentive to make the 2022 season one to remember?
“First and foremost, my number one goal is to support the team.
“We’ve set ourselves some goals in terms of what we want to achieve this year, and the whole club are under no illusions that it’s going to be a very, very tough challenge.
“If you look at some of the teams in the Championship now, they’ve recruited very well. Some of the top teams could probably compete consistently in a Super League environment, so it’s going to be a challenging year.
“Personally, it gives me a good incentive to make it a successful year, on and off the field.”
