Paul Crarey: We need the people of Barrow behind us

Barrow Raiders need the support of the town behind them when Wigan Warriors visit for a pre-season friendly on Sunday, says head coach Paul Crarey.

The Warriors, five-time Super League champions, will bring a mixture of first team players and academy products to the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium as they continue their preparations ahead of the upcoming season.

For the Raiders squad, it will be a final chance to impress before their 2023 campaign begins at home to Toulouse Olympique on Saturday 4 February.

“We’ll be looking forward to it,” Crarey said. “We just need the people of Barrow behind us.

“It’s Wigan who suggested they come and play us, so it’s fantastic that a Super League club wants to come here.

“I watched their academy on tape against Whitehaven, and they were very good value for money.

“They’ve got some up-and-coming stars, some big bodies in there, full of enthusiasm. That’s where the likes of Jack Wells and Greg Burke have come from in the past.

“I know there’s a lot of interest in town. People have stopped to speak to me, so I know there’s a lot of people heading to Craven Park this Sunday.

“Hopefully we can do them justice and put a display on.”
