Rio Corkill: I want to bring maximum effort

New signing Rio Corkill has explained what Barrow Raiders supporters can expect from him next season. 

The 20-year-old recently signed a one-year deal with the Raiders, having impressed while on trial during the early weeks of pre-season. 

He arrives at the club following several seasons at Super League champions St Helens, where he progressed through the club’s ranks before making his Super League debut last season. 

Now the former Walney Central youngster is excited to get to grips with his new surroundings and train hard ahead of the 2023 campaign.

“I want to bring maximum effort,” he said. “I might not be the best in one area, but my desire to improve is what will bring me up to that level. 

“I’ll put my head on the line, give my all and try my best for the team.”

During his time at Saints, Corkill had the opportunity to train and play with the first team, learning from a number of experienced international players.

He is hoping to put that experience to good use and help the Raiders push on following a Betfred Championship play-off finish last season.

“Being in an environment of winners has had a massive effect on me,” Corkill added.

“That was another reason why I wanted to come here. I can see similarities between Saints and Barrow.

“Barrow is a club that wants to win and wants to strive for the best, and I want to carry on doing that personally.”
