Tee Ritson: Barrow holds a special place in my heart

Tee Ritson says Barrow Raiders will always hold special memories for him, after the winger made his St Helens debut on Friday night.

Ritson first joined the Raiders from Newcastle Thunder in 2018 and went on to score a remarkable 70 tries in 73 appearances.

A blistering 2022 campaign saw him catch the eye of many clubs, and it was Saints who struck a deal to sign the 27-year-old flyer on a season-long loan

Despite making the move to Super League, Ritson says his love for Barrow and everything the club did for him won’t be forgotten.

“They’ve been great for me, ever since I signed [at Barrow],” Ritson said.

“I got a lot of support from the club, the staff there, but most importantly my team-mates, who were so welcoming from day one.

“I’m close to a lot of the lads, and it does hold a special place in my heart.

“They did a lot for me, and I hope that I’ve done them proud by returning the favour over the last couple of years.”

Ritson will travel with the St Helens squad to Australia next week as preparations continue for the World Club Challenge, where they will face Penrith Panthers next month.

He is hoping that a big year lies ahead as he looks to make his mark on Super League.

“To be out here, playing on this pitch and wearing the famous red V in front of a nice big crowd, it was an unreal feeling and I loved every minute,” Ritson added.

“I personally feel like it’s been a long time coming. I haven’t done things the conventional way. I haven’t been through the academies or systems and done it that way.

“It’s been a longer road for me, but I’ve always had that belief.

“It’s an opportunity which I’ve waited for for a long time now, and it’s something I’m looking to grasp.”
