Barrow Raiders half-back Alex Bishop has signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2026 season.

The 31-year-old joined the Raiders ahead of last season, having spent the previous campaign at Keighley Cougars and two years at Whitehaven prior to that.

He is the grandson of legendary dummy-half Tommy Bishop, who made 39 appearances for Barrow in the 1960s and briefly managed the club in 1985.

In his first season at the club, Bishop scored twice in 23 appearances.

“I thought we had a good year and proved a lot of people’s opinions wrong,” he said.

“I’m really happy to be staying with the Raiders again, as it was a really enjoyable season with a good group of lads.

“I’m hoping that last season was a good platform for us to build on as we push for a return to the play-offs next season.”

Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “Bish was a massive part of the team last year and his versatility and ability to play equally well in the halves or as hooker was a great asset to the team.

“Tough as teak and with a big pre-season, we hope to see the best of Bish throughout the season.”

Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Since arriving in Barrow, Bish has been a valuable member of our squad.

“He was a regular feature last season and proved to be an assured figure in the middle of the pitch, as we knew he would.

“In Bish, Brad Walker and Ryan Johnston, among others, we have several experienced creative players who are all eager to drive standards in training and on a matchday.

“He thoroughly deserves this new deal, and we look forward to seeing the impact he can have in 2026.”
