Barrow Raiders winger Brett Carter has signed a new one-year deal ahead of the 2023 Betfred Championship season.

The 34-year-old first joined Barrow in 2008 and is currently in his third spell at the club.

Carter returned to the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium following a stint at Whitehaven ahead of the 2022 campaign and went on to make 11 appearances in total, scoring twice.

On extending his stay with the Raiders, Carter said: “Last year was one of the most enjoyable seasons of rugby I’ve been involved in, and a very successful one too. I’m grateful to have been offered the opportunity to be a part of that again.

“Expectations for this year will be high after such a successful season, so wanting to back that up this year will be important for the club to keep progressing.

“I’ll just be training hard and trying to improve as much as I can, so when given the opportunity I add some value to the team.”

Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “He’s been great. Brett just wanted an opportunity, and he signed last season for match money only.

“He’s earned himself a new contract because he’s great to have around. He’s very versatile, very tenacious and a great squad member.”

Barrow Raiders chairman Steve Neale said: “Brett came back to us last season looking for an opportunity, and it was fair to say that he grabbed it with both hands and fully deserves a contract extension.

“Whilst he was very much a squad player, he is just the sort of character you need around the camp.

“With the departure of Tee Ritson, we are doubly pleased that Brett will be in there fighting for one of the wing positions, with his versatility also providing cover in other positions.”
