Barrow Raiders Ladies are proud to announce CGP Books as primary sponsors of the club’s Under 19s team ahead of their debut season in the Women’s Super League.
CGP, the UK’s most popular educational publisher, are proud to be 100% Cumbrian, with offices in Millom, Broughton-in-Furness and Grizebeck.
The company has more than 1,500 best-selling titles for learners, from early years through to further education. 10 million CGP books are sold every year, helping students around the world do brilliantly in their studies.
Alongside its publishing success, CGP has always been proud to support its local community.
The company provides funding for a wide range of community projects, reflecting its commitment to making a positive difference both in education and in the place it calls home, and we are grateful for their support ahead of a landmark year for our female pathway.
The Raiders Ladies Under 19s are set to embark on their first season in the U19 Women’s Super League, with their opening game coming at home to Huddersfield Giants on Sunday 19 April (midday kick-off).
Entry to their fixture is available for £5, enabling supporters to come and cheer on the next generation of Raiders Ladies.
The team will be captained by 18-year-old Super League team regular Imogen Smillie, who has been part of the club since she was 16 years of age and has frequently impressed head coach Amanda Wilkinson.
The WSL U19s does not operate under a league structure, instead placing the onus on development of the young women to ready them to take part in Super League.
Barrow Ladies head coach Amanda Wilkinson said: “This is a really exciting time for our ladies setup, and so to have the support of a fantastic organisation like CGP is something we are really grateful for.
“With the full backing of Steve Neale and the wider board of directors, we have been able to turn our vision of creating a comprehensive female pathway into a reality.
“A lot of hard work has gone into making this happen, and we hope to see as many supporters as possible join us this Sunday lunchtime, for what will be a historic moment for the club.”
Chairman Steve Neale said: “During a special time for our female pathway, having the support of organisations like CGP show we’re taking big steps in the right direction.
“From the outset, our plan has always been to see a conveyor belt of talent move from the age group Barrow Ladies teams into our Women’s Super League side, and we’re confident that the introduction of our Under 19s will bear fruit for many years to come.
“Richard Parsons and the team at CGP believe in our club’s vision, and we hope this is the start of a successful relationship for many years to come.”
CGP chairman Richard Parsons said: “CGP is delighted to sponsor the Barrow Raiders Women’s U19 team. It’s a great way to support young people in our local area.
“We’ll be rooting for them in the U19 Women’s Super League, and hopefully the power of the CGP logo will strike fear into the other teams!”
