Barrow Raiders are saddened to confirm the departure of Danny Langtree due to increased work commitments.
The powerful forward arrived from Oldham ahead of the 2022 Betfred Championship season and has gone on to make a total of 37 appearances for the club.
He scored five tries in 21 matches during the 2023 campaign but suffered a season-ending dislocated shoulder during the Raiders’ 14-10 victory at Bradford Bulls in July.
It has since been confirmed that Langtree will require shoulder surgery, which won’t take place until the new year.
After amicable discussions between player and club, Danny felt that a greater workload away from the field, combined with his impending surgery, meant he couldn’t devote the time needed to be a Barrow Raiders first team player in 2024.
The 32-year-old leaves with our very best wishes, and we sincerely hope that he will be able to find a club closer to home and return to the pitch, once he builds his way back to full fitness.
“It was a tough decision to leave, but with work commitments changing and me being a two-hour drive away, it would’ve been hard to fully commit to Barrow,” Langtree said.
“The club has been good to me for the two years I’ve been there, and I’ve enjoyed my time thoroughly. I have nothing but good things to say about the club, its staff, the lads I’ve played with and of course the wonderful Raiders supporters.”
Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Conversations with Danny have always been open and honest during his stay with us, and it is a testament to his character and professionalism that he was clear about the time he felt he could commit to being a player at this club.
“Danny will also be sidelined by his upcoming shoulder surgery. Nevertheless, he always gave 100% when taking the field, and both Danny and his family will always be welcome back in Barrow.”
