Barrow Raiders can confirm that Ellis Gillam will leave the club to pursue full-time opportunities within the sport.
Gillam joined the Raiders ahead of the club’s first season back in the Betfred Championship.
He went on to score nine tries in 71 appearances, establishing himself as a key member of Paul Crarey’s forward pack over several years.
Off the field, Gillam has also been an integral part of the club’s community work, through his role at the Advantage! Barrow Raiders Community Foundation.

The 26-year-old was a popular figure on the terraces, and we wish him all the best in his new venture.
Discussing the decision to leave, Gillam said: “Playing for Barrow was a dream of mine from a young age, coming to watch with my dad every week. I’ve loved every minute for the past three years.
“I’ve been given an opportunity to go full-time, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to try and have a shot at.
“I’d like to thank the fans for the unreal support they have shown me during my time at the club, and to all young boys and girls I’ve hopefully inspired to be future Raiders.

“A final thank you must go to Steve Neale and Andy Gaffney with how they have dealt with the situation, and to Paul Crarey, who has changed me as a player and been totally supportive in this situation.”
Barrow Raiders director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “It is always sad to see someone of Ellis’ quality leave, but we are not a club that stands in the way of a player if they wish to pursue a full-time opportunity elsewhere.
“Ellis has been a model professional, on and off the pitch, and we are confident that he will go on to achieve wonderful things in the game.
“He is a local lad who leaves with our best wishes for the future. Ellis and his family know that they are always welcome to visit in the future.”
