Barrow Raiders are delighted to announce the re-signing of talented youngster Jake Carter on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old is a product of Furness Raiders and Barrow Island ARLFC, and made the step up to Barrow Raiders originally in 2018, joining the likes of fellow half-back Ryan Johnston to progress from the Furness set-up.

The re-signing demonstrates the clear pathway for local talent, as Raiders continue to sign and attract the very best from the area.

“For me, the chance to extend my time here at Barrow was a no-brainer,” said Carter.

“From being a kid watching in the stands to running out on the pitch for my hometown club, each week is very special to me and it’s something I’m very proud of.

“The club is continuously improving on and off the pitch giving the place a real buzz to be around. Andy Gaffney is doing a fantastic job of attracting some top players to Barrow.

“Winning the league this year was the highlight of my career so far and I was delighted we were able to give something back to the hard work of Steve Neale, Paul (Crarey) and all involved, especially the fans, who were outstanding this year.

“In regards to 2022, I feel this year was a positive one for myself, I’ll continue to work hard to improve on and off the field and hopefully pick up where I left off, starting with pre-season.

“This year will be a massive step up but it’s where we want to be as a club and I’m very fortunate to be able to be a part of it.”

On the re-signing, head coach Paul Crarey added: “Jake is proof that our academy system is working.

“He is still only very young and learning and was in the 17 for almost every game last season.

“He has a great attitude and will continue to thrive with his willingness to work hard and improve his game.”
