Barrow Raiders captain Jarrad Stack has signed a new one-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2025 Betfred Championship season.
Stack will enter his eighth year with the club, having passed the 150-game milestone in Raiders colours last season.
Formerly of Workington Town, Stack has played more than 300 games in the UK and scored 112 tries in all competitions.
Stack featured 20 times for the club last season, and following recent discussions, the 36-year-old has committed to the club for a further year.
On the new deal, he said: “I’m really pleased that I will be pulling the Barrow shirt on again next year.
“I think I needed some time away from it all. It’s been a very hard year mentally with things going on in my personal life, and I needed some time to myself.
“The constant messages from my team-mates, the fans and Cresta [Paul Crarey] was a big factor in me wanting to come back.
“I know I’ll be 37 when the season starts, but I know what I can offer and so do the club.
“I’m happy to go around again, especially seeing some of the new signings. It’s also nice that me and Kingy [Ryan King] don’t have to slog it out and get into verbals now, and we will be team-mates this time around!”
The retention of club captain Stack has been made possible thanks to the ongoing support of our 1875 Club members.
Supporters can join the 1875 Club from as little as £10 a month.
Funds generated will help with future player signings and squad retention as we look to continue developing a playing group capable of challenging in the Betfred Championship.
Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said: “It’s a fantastic Christmas present for Raiders supporters to see that our club captain for the last seven years has decided to sign for another season.
“After a tough year on and off the field and on it, it was no surprise that Jarrad decided to retire, but after a few weeks away where he could reflect and relax, he has decided to give it a go for another season.
“Already a club legend, Jarrad goes above and beyond and brings an incredible attitude and leadership skills, both on and off the field.
“I would personally like to thank everyone who contributed to part-fund Jarrad’s contract. Without your support, it wouldn’t have been possible.”
Director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “This deal has been a long time coming, and we’re delighted to finally get it over the line.
“Jarrad has been an integral part of the Raiders for many seasons and is one of the most consistent performers at this level, both in attack and defence.
“He will undoubtedly play a crucial role in what we are trying to do next season, and I’d like to thank Jarrad for agreeing to one more year.”
