We are delighted to announce the appointment of Lee Johnson as head coach of our Barrow Raiders Ladies Under 19s team.
Johnson played his rugby for Hindley in Greater Manchester and, following his retirement, decided to move into coaching.
He started training the Under 16s Boys at Hindley and went on to work with a number of other teams at the club, also assisting with their men’s open age team.
After a year out of coaching, he came to Barrow and was keen to get involved with the club.
Initially volunteering as assistant coach within our Pathway to Performance (P2P) programme and then supporting our Under 19s, he will now make the step up having accepted the role of head coach.
Johnson will continue to learn from Barrow Ladies head coach Amanda Wilkinson and her assistant, Dan Cargan.
Living in Hindley means his commitment involves lots of travel, but Johnson says his love for the game and desire to coach at the club makes the decision to link up with the Raiders Ladies a no-brainer.
Discussing the appointment, women’s boss Wilkinson said: “Lee had the opportunity through our pre-season programme, friendlies and first part of the season to be a development coach within our Super League setup.
“He has assisted, observed, and been very committed to supporting the girls.
“Not only that, he has been a great bloke to have around the squad and brings to our club an enthusiasm and desire to help Barrow Ladies succeed, from our pathway squads through to the first team itself.”
