Barrow Raiders captain Ryan Johnston has committed his immediate future to the club, signing a new deal running until the end of the 2028 season.
Johnston first joined the Raiders in 2017. In doing so, he became the first player to make the step up to the first team from Furness Raiders – the club’s development pathway.
A boyhood Barrow supporter, Johnston has gone on to represent the club 166 times in all competitions, passing the 150-game mark back in April.
He took over the captaincy from Jarrad Stack ahead of the 2026 season, subsequently leading the Raiders to the Betfred Championship play-offs.
A key figure on and off the field, everyone at the club is delighted to see Johnston remain a Raider for the next two seasons.
“I’m over the moon to have signed for another two years. It’s no secret what this club means to me and my family,” he said.
“I couldn’t see myself playing anywhere else. We have great fans and a great group of lads, so it was a no-brainer.
“I’d like to thank Paul Crarey and the club for making it happen. I can’t wait to get started as we work towards 2027, and a special thank you to all of the fans who have been fantastic all year long.”
Barrow Raiders director of rugby Andy Gaffney said: “Ryan Johnston is Barrow Raiders through and through, so we are delighted to see him agree to stay for the next two years.
“Taking over the captaincy from Jarrad was no easy task, but Ryan is a natural leader and inspires those around him on the field.
“If we are to enjoy further success in 2027, Ryan will be a key part of that. He is one of the top half-backs in the division, and at 28 years of age, we are confident that his best years are still ahead of him.”
