Barrow Raiders Ladies have welcomed forward Sam Unsworth to their first team squad on a permanent basis.
Unsworth signs for the club’s Betfred Women’s Super League side having first linked up with the club’s Under 19s earlier in the season after an invite from head coach Amanda Wilkinson.
She becomes the second young Raider in as many weeks to progress to the first team, following in the footsteps of Darcy Southward.
Unsworth started playing rugby for Orrell St James at the age of 15 and has been there ever since, aside from a brief spell with Salford’s reserve team.
After signing for the Raiders Ladies Under 19s, she has gone on to impress the club’s coaching staff with her high performance levels.
Unsworth has already featured twice for the first team, against Leeds and Leigh, and has subsequently been offered the opportunity to become a permanent member of the Super League squad.
“It’s a great team and I’m proud to be a part of it,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to contributing to the team on their Super League journey.”
Barrow Ladies head coach Amanda Wilkinson said: “Sam has shone right from the moment she arrived with our Under 19s.
“She is an aggressive and powerful forward, and will be a welcome addition to our team.”
