Unbeaten Betfred Championship leaders Wakefield Trinity proved to be too strong for Barrow Raiders, running out 36-0 victors at the Northern Competitions Stadium.

Trinity had won their opening 12 league games, plus the 1895 Cup, to sit six points clear at the top of the division and proved exactly why with an assured display at both ends of the field.

Tries from Oliver Pratt and Derrell Olpherts saw them go 10-0 up inside the opening quarter, before Jay Pitts extended the advantage shortly before half-time – despite Wakefield being a man light after Jack Croft was sent to the sin-bin following repeat infringements from his side.

Trinity’s 16-0 advantage grew early in the second half as Olpherts touched down in the corner for his second of the match, and less than 10 minutes later the former Leeds Rhinos winger made it a hat-trick.

The Raiders continued to work hard in attack and defence but couldn’t trouble the scoreboard, with Wakefield’s edge defence muscling up at key moments as Paul Crarey’s side looked to threaten.

Instead, Lachlan Walmsley added further icing on the Trinity cake before Josh Griffin held off Ryan Johnston to score the visitors’ seventh of the afternoon, rounding off the scoring at 36-0.

Coming up next Sunday, the Raiders will travel to York for an exciting double-header featuring the men’s and women’s teams of both clubs. The action begins at midday with York Valkyrie vs Barrow Ladies before the men take to the field for a 3pm kick-off.
