Barrow Raiders put in an excellent display on Good Friday to run out 18-8 winners against Widnes Vikings in Round 9 of the Betfred Championship.

The Raiders made it back-to-back victories in front of a healthy home crowd at the Speed Competitions Stadium.

The Vikings broke the deadlock shortly before the half-hour mark, a slick passing move out towards the right and a cut-out pass from Jack Owens sending Nathan Connell over unopposed.

But on the stroke of half-time, Jarrad Stack came up with a telling contribution, latching onto an angled kick back towards the posts from Ryan Johnston to score his first try since the 2024 season.

Early in the second half came the moment of the match. A Widnes high kick on tackle five was returned with interest as Luke Broadbent fended off multiple tackles and skipped left before finding Shane Toal, who in-turn released Tee Ritson down the left to put the foot down and race over for a memorable try.

Widnes pulled themselves back to within four points with 15 minutes to go, Ryan Ince the scorer of their second.

But it would be Paul Crarey’s side who secured the win late on, Curtis Teare finding a gap down the right edge then passing back inside to full-back Luke Cresswell to go over under the posts.

Up next for the Raiders is a trip to the Crown Oil Arena to face Rochdale Hornets. Tickets are available to buy here.
