An inspired defensive effort saw Barrow Raiders past Oldham in Round 3 of the Betfred Championship.
The Raiders ran out 20-6 winners at the Northern Competition Stadium to make it two wins from three in the league, with a superb solo effort from the returning Tee Ritson the standout moment of what proved to be a perfect afternoon for the Raiders.
Although Riley Dean’s converted try saw Oldham hit back, two penalties from Brad Walker before then meant the Raiders led 10-6 at half-time.
Quick hands saw Andrew Bulman nudge the Raiders eight points clear early in the second half, before Paul Crarey’s side were forced to withstand a barrage of pressure from the visitors.
The Roughyeds, who defeated the Raiders in the Betfred Challenge Cup last month, simply couldn’t find a way through and ventually, victory was sealed in the final minutes as Aaron Smith charged over.
Sunday’s result leaves the Raiders second in the Championship table, behind Halifax Panthers who are the only side to have won their opening three matches.
Due to the latest round of the Betfred Challenge Cup, the Raiders aren’t back in action until Friday 21 March, when they make the trip to Odsal to face Bradford Bulls.
Tickets for that fixture are available here.
