Barrow Raiders climbed to second in the Betfred Championship after coming from behind to defeat Doncaster 24-19.
The Raiders were forced to dig deep in Sunday’s Round 8 clash at the Northern Competitions Stadium, overcoming a seven-point deficit at half-time to continue their excellent start to the season.
Unforced errors proved to be the Raiders’ undoing in the opening 40 as Doncaster crossed three times, Edene Gebbie scoring twice and Reece Lyne also touching down shortly before half-time.
Despite Andrew Bulman and Tee Ritson scoring in reply, a Craig Hall drop-goal meant the visitors led 15-8 at the break.
But the second half saw a much-improved Raiders performance, and it didn’t take long for Curtis Teare to reduce the arrears before Ryan King burrowed his way over to give Paul Crarey’s side the lead for the first time all afternoon.
Doncaster hit back through Lyne’s second of the game, but Hall’s missed conversion meant that the Raiders held a one-point advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.
There would be one final try, and it went the way of the home side to secure the points.
A dangerous attacking move down the left saw the ball reach the hands of Teare, who found space to break the line and touch down.
The Raiders will look to make it four wins in a row next Sunday when they head to West Yorkshire to take on Batley Bulldogs.
