Barrow Raiders suffered a disappointing 24-12 defeat to Batley Bulldogs at Dewsbury’s FLAIR Stadium on Monday night.
A converted Josh Hodson try gave the Bulldogs a slender lead heading towards half-time, with James Meadows adding a further penalty goal to make it 8-0 at the interval.
They stretched their lead seconds into the second half when Sam Kibula stripped the ball from Ellis Gillam in the tackle and dived over near the posts.
Meadows then crossed himself to make it 20-0 before the hour mark, and Dale Morton extended that advantage further with a diving finish in the corner as the game entered the final 10 minutes.
There was still time for the Raiders to grab two late consolations, with Greg Burke spinning his way over for a first try since returning to the club on a permanent deal.
And in the closing stages, half-back Jarrod Sammut dummied his way through the line to add further respectability to the scoreline.
