Barrow Raiders produced a determined performance on the road to overcome Doncaster 32-22 in Round 23 of the Betfred Championship.

Victory saw the Raiders end a five-match losing run and claim an impressive two points in their penultimate away game of the season.

They found themselves 18-0 ahead inside the opening quarter, thanks to tries from Luke Broadbent, Shane Toal and Ryan Johnston.

Toal’s was a particularly impressive finish, the outside back intercepting 10m from his own line and streaking away to score under the posts.

The hosts responded with 23 minutes gone as experienced forward Pauli Pauli crashed over the line.

But just before half-time, the Raiders restored their 18-point cushion as the returning Ryan Shaw touched down. After another intercept, this time from half-back Johnston, he passed to Shaw and ‘the Eagle’ raced home from 80m out.

It got even better for Paul Crarey’s side 10 minutes into the second half. After a high kick from Johnston came loose, the ball was collected by Ellis Robson who reached out to score.

The home side rallied with three tries in 15 minutes to bring themselves back to within eight points, but there would be no grandstand finish as Shaw rounded off the scoring with a penalty at the death.

Victory saw the Raiders maintain their hopes of a play-off finish, with a home game against sixth-placed Halifax Panthers to come next Sunday. Tickets are available to buy here.
