Barrow Raiders fell to a disappointing 48-12 defeat at Featherstone Rovers in Round 16 of the Betfred Championship.
After the high of the previous week’s victory over Bradford Bulls, the Raiders couldn’t keep their momentum going as they were outperformed by a Featherstone side that climbed into the play-offs as a result of Sunday’s win.
The Raiders matched their opponents for much of the opening quarter, Gareth Gale’s early try for Rovers cancelled out by Finn McMillan’s first of the season after a smart offload from Tom Walker.
However, the home side scored 24 unanswered points to take a 30-6 lead into half-time and stretched their advantage further three minutes after the restart, James Glover going over for his second of the afternoon.
Matt Costello pulled a try back after racing through a gap down the right edge, but that would be as good as it got for the Raiders.
King Vuniyayawa scored just before the hour mark to make it 42-12, then it got worse for the visitors as Alex Bishop was sent off with seven minutes to go.
The final word would be Featherstone’s, with Sitaleki Akauola latching onto a cross-field kick to touch down to the right of the posts.
The Raiders will hope to regroup quickly as they return home to face Batley Bulldogs this Sunday. Tickets are available to buy here.
