Barrow Raiders set up an 1895 Cup quarter-final meeting with Oldham after overcoming Goole Vikings 34-16 at the Victoria Pleasure Ground.
In the face of stern opposition, the Raiders were forced to dig deep to overcome their Betfred League 1 hosts.
Curtis Teare bagged two of the Raiders’ five tries, while Andrew Bulman kept up his fine run of scoring form and on-loan St Helens winger also crossed on his second Raiders debut.
Kavan Rothwell scored his first since returning to the club on a season-long loan from Leigh Leopards, his four-pointer coming shortly before half-time as the Raiders led by eight at the break.
The boot of Brad Walker – who was recently named in Rugby League World’s Team of the Month – kept the scoreline ticking over, with 14 points coming from the boot of the hometown half-back.
A second trip of the season to Oldham is the Raiders’ reward for progressing to the last eight. Before then, the two teams will meet in Round 3 of the Betfred Championship this coming Sunday.
Tickets for that fixture are available here.
