In-form Oldham came from behind to defeat Barrow Raiders 28-16 in Round 21 of the Betfred Championship.
The Raiders gave a good account of themselves at Boundary Park but couldn’t get the job done against one of the division’s in-form sides, as the Roughyeds made it 16 straight league wins after a resurgent final quarter.
Oldham took the lead on 10 minutes, spreading the ball towards the left edge for Ben O’Keefe to power his way over.
But the Raiders gained the upper hand in the wrestle and led 12-4 at half-time, thanks to Tom Walker’s finish under the sticks and a passing move right to send Dan Knott over just before the half-hour.
Early in the second half, a high kick was spilled by Luke Cresswell and it bounced into the arms of Tom Nisbet, who dived over to bring his side back to within two.
A penalty goal for the hosts brought them Oldham, but a few minutes later the Raiders re-took the lead through Jarrad Stack, showing his strength to go over on his landmark 200th appearance for the club.
In the end, it was a yellow card shown to Luke Broadbent for a high tackle which proved to be the turning point for the hosts, who scored through Bayley Liu, Luke Forber before Josh Drinkwater wrapped up the win with a dummy-and-dart over the line.
For the Raiders, a home game against Rochdale Hornets comes next at the Speed Competitions Stadium on Saturday 1 August (6pm kick-off).
