Barrow Raiders’ 2025 season ended with a disappointing 26-12 defeat at Sheffield Eagles.
A scoreless first half for the Raiders left them with work to do, as tries from Ryan Millar and Billy Walkley putting Sheffield 10-0 ahead at the break.
Paul Crarey’s side responded soon after half-time, however. Aiden Doolan made an excellent break through the middle then found the supporting Brad Walker, who raced over.
Ryan Shaw’s conversion brought the Raiders back to within four points, only for Sheffield to respond inside six minutes as Millar grabbed his second of the afternoon.
On his final career appearance, Kris Welham touched down shortly after the hour mark to give the Eagles some breathing space, and it didn’t take long for Connor Bower to secure the win with a try in the corner 15 minutes from time.
Despite being a man down for the final six minutes after Alex Bishop’s sin-binning, his half-back partner Walker scored a late consolation.
With the platform laid by Shane Toal’s excellent 80m break downfield, the Raiders shifted the ball wide on the next play for Walker to go over.
Sheffield had the final word, Welham scoring a penalty to mark a fitting farewell to professional rugby league.
Sunday’s defeat means the Raiders end the season ninth in the Betfred Championship table.
