Barrow Raiders endured a difficult afternoon in North Yorkshire, falling to a 54-12 defeat to York Knights RLFC in Round 14 of the Betfred Championship.

The recently-resurgent Knights ran in a total of 10 tries at the LNER Community Stadium, blowing away the Raiders with a dominant and controlled first half display before keeping the scoreboard ticking over in the second 40.

Despite falling 14-0 behind inside the opening quarter, the Raiders rallied well and posted their first points through Jarrad Stack, who latched onto the end of Brad Walker’s deft kick to touch down.

Nevertheless, York pressed home their superiority with three converted tries before the first half was over – Brad Ward, Connor Bailey and Jack Teanby with their latest scores.

That left the Knights 32-6 ahead at the interval, and they added to that lead before the hour mark through Oli Field and a Liam Harris intercept.

The boot of Will Dagger put them 44-6 up, then Harris brought up the 50-point mark by breaking a couple of tackles to score his second of the afternoon.

There would be something for the Raiders to shout about in consolation as Andrew Bulman scored his sixth try of the season in all competitions, but York had the final word through Nikau Williams, who was sent over in the latter stages.

It capped off a difficult afternoon for the club, with Barrow Ladies falling to a 44-0 defeat to Betfred Women’s Super League champions York Valkyrie earlier in the day.

Next up for the Raiders is another important away game at Batley Bulldogs, kicking off at 3pm on Sunday. Match tickets for that game can be purchased here.
