Barrow Raiders forward Charlie Emslie has warned his team-mates not to get complacent after the club’s impressive start to the Betfred Championship season.
With seven rounds gone, the Raiders have won five games and find themselves third in the table, two points behind leaders Halifax Panthers.
Paul Crarey’s side battled past London Broncos 24-6 at the Northern Competitions on Good Friday and will return home again this week to face Doncaster, who have won three and lost three of their opening six games.
For Emslie, the opening weeks of the campaign have proven that the Raiders can compete with the very best teams in the division.
“The mood is great in the changing room,” he said.
“The lads are confident and we’ve shown that we can match anyone in the competition. When you start the season well, it sets you up for the rest of the year and has certainly filled us with self-belief.
“Before the season started, a lot of people didn’t think we’d be able to compete this year.
“We’ve shown that we aren’t here to mess around. The team has had a good start, but now we need to stay consistent because complacency is the enemy of winners.”
After an injury-disrupted 2024 season, Emslie has returned to first team duties with a point to prove, producing a series of excellent displays in the early rounds of the campaign.
The Raiders will hope for more of the game this Sunday against Doncaster, and the versatile forward insists his side cannot afford to deviate from what has been working well for them,
“Doncaster have had some hit-and-miss results but have also proven they can compete on their day,” he added.
“We are targeting this game as an opportunity to put more points on the table, but we will need to turn up and play our best rugby to get the job done.”
