Barrow Raiders’ fine start to the Betfred Championship season continued with a 24-6 victory over London Broncos on Good Friday.

The Raiders were full value for the win, racing into an unassailable 16-0 half-time lead which they wouldn’t relinquish against a Broncos side making their return to the second tier following a season in the Betfred Super League.

Two Brad Walker penalties set the Raiders on their way before the game’s first try came 10 minutes before half-time, Aaron Smith pouncing after the Broncos fail to deal with a testing kick through from Walker.

Shortly after, the Raiders moved further ahead when the ball was moved wide towards on-loan St Helens winger Tee Ritson, who sprinted down the wing then cut inside beyond defenders to score an excellent try.

London posted first points in the second half through Luke Polselli, but that would prove to be their only successful foray forward of the afternoon.

Instead, another Walker penalty moved the Raiders 12 points clear with eight minutes left.

Then, Luke Broadbent made an intercept in the final few minutes and set up Ryan King to break downfield. He found the supporting Andrew Bulman, who in-turn fed Broadbent to finish off an excellent team try.

Paul Crarey’s Raiders have now won five of their opening seven league games and will look to keep building momentum when Doncaster visit the Northern Competitions Stadium on Sunday 27 April.
