Despite tasting defeat in the south of France, Barrow Raiders winger Tee Ritson says the squad are in a good place heading into Sunday’s Round 12 clash with Featherstone Rovers at the Northern Competitions Stadium.

The Raiders raced into a 12-0 lead against the league leaders at the Stade Ernest-Wallon, with Andrew Bulman scoring twice.

However, Toulouse fought back with five unanswered tries either side of half-time, eventually wearing the Raiders down as they found a way past Paul Crarey’s side.

Still, Crarey was full of praise for the performance of his side across the channel, and Ritson says that the squad cannot afford to let their standards slip.

He said: “The main focus will be on ourselves, as it always is.

“The best teams aren’t necessarily the teams with the most talented players, but the teams who are the most consistent throughout the season.

“We’ve set a standard now, with how we’ve started the season, and it’s important that we maintain that consistency and don’t allow those standards to drop.

“As long as we keep the focus on ourselves, and make sure each of us is doing our own job and doing it well, then we stand a good chance against any side in the division.”

After a two-week hiatus, the Raiders returned to action in Toulouse and must now look to recover quickly, with Featherstone lying in wait this weekend.

The recent break in play allowed a number of players to recover from injuries, bumps and bruises – something which Ritson says came at the opportune moment.

He added: “We had a very physical game against Batley just before the break, and it took its toll on some of our players.

“We also lost a few through injury that day, so the time off gave us chance to rest and recover, and also allowed some of our already injured players to gain back some valuable time in terms of their spells on the sidelines.

“We’re feeling nice and refreshed, and all eyes are on these next few games.”
